How AskFred Got Its First Paying Customer in Just 3 Days#

Today, we spoke with Pava, founder of AskFred.

What is AskFred?#

AskFred is an AI customer support chatbot built for small businesses. It learns your FAQs, answers visitors 24/7, handles appointment bookings, and escalates conversations when human help is needed. Pava recently launched AskFred on Product Hunt and is also working on a second product: an AI-powered invoicing tool that automatically follows up on unpaid invoices.#

Question#

How did you get your first paying customer? How long did it take after launch?#

Pava's Answer#

"Honestly, cold outreach and a lot of luck." Instead of waiting for users to discover the product, Pava actively searched for small businesses that clearly needed better customer support.

His approach was simple:

  • Find businesses with obvious support challenges
  • Send personalized emails
  • Avoid generic templates
  • Focus on real problems For each industry he targeted:
  • ~140 personalized emails sent
  • ~20–30 replies received His first paying customer arrived just 3 days after launch. The customer started with the free trial, saw the chatbot successfully answer questions that would otherwise have gone unanswered, and upgraded to the Pro plan.

Key Lessons#

1. Don't Wait for Users to Find You#

Go find them. Especially in the early days.

2. Personalization Beats Templates#

Generic outreach gets ignored. Real research and personalized messages get replies.

3. Time-to-Value Matters#

Users need to experience value quickly. The faster they see results, the faster they convert.

4. Simplicity Wins#

Reduce friction. Make onboarding simple. Help users understand the value within the first minute.#

Quote of the Day#

"Don't wait for people to find you. You gotta get out there and find them. Make it super simple to onboard. If they see the value in the first minute, they will pay." — Pava, Founder of AskFred
